The activities of BKF are aligned with two of its major objectives. The project activities are those that address infrastructural issues that affect quality patient care to the CKD patients. The patient care activities address the cost of renal health to CKD patients.



  • Providing low cost dialysis to very poor and needy patients
  • Creating awareness on CKD through annual events
  • Bringing out booklets/handouts for public interest
  • Organising fund raising events to sustain the services
  • Holding annual lecture on Medical topics
  • Participating in walkathons, cyclothon etc..
  • Awareness presentations to social clubs, service clubs, educational institutions etc
  • Arranging visits of individuals, community celebrities etc
  • Arranging funds raising programs

Dr. Bapat Memorial Lecture: Annual lecture


In the name of Dr.A R Bapat, a brilliant research scientist at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore who succumbed to renal failure, and root cause for the beginning of Bangalore Kidney Foundation, a memorial lecture by prominent doctors will be presented every year in the month of February.

  2. "NEPHROLOGY: THE COMING WARES" by Dr. Vincent Llyod, Narayana Hrudayalaya
  3. "RENAL TRANSPLANTATION: EVOLUTION OF SURGICAL TECHNIQUES" by Dr.Girish Nelivigi, Institute of Nephro Urology

Dr. Bapat Memorial Lecture 2014:

The following presentations were made:

  1. "THE BURDEN OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN OUR COUNTRY” by Dr. Sudarshan Ballal, Manipal Hospitals
  2. "ADVANCES IN URETHRAL STRICTURE MANAGEMENT" by Dr.Ratkal. C S, Institute of Nephro Urology
  1. "Touché Golf Charity Tournament": Fund raising event

Golfing for a Cause: Charity Golf Tournament was held in November 2014 in order to raise funds for BKF activities. Tournament was well attended and received good reviews. BKF is planning to conduct such events every year.


Dhwani: Annual fund raiser event


On Apr 10, 1991, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur was rushed from Dharwad to BKF Nephro Urology Centre in Bangalore with acute kidney failure and other complications. BKF treated him successfully and in return Mansur committed the first concert after recovery in aid of BKF. Thus commenced the relationship between BKF and Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur till he passed away during Jan 1992. BKF was looking at various annual events for fund raising and as brand events. In 2004, BKF initiated the Dhwani-BKF Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur Hindusthani Classical Music festival with the objective of perpetuating the memory of the doyen late Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur. BKF also, instituted the BKF-Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur Award to well known teachers of hindusthani classical music and also who have not been adequate honoured by awards. The award consists of a cash payment of Rs.1.0 lac, a bronze bust of Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur, a shawl and a citation.


The artistes selected for performing are a mix of hindusthani classical music celebrities, musicians familiar to music lovers and artistes of the future.

In keeping with the BKF objective of affordable model, the charges for a session of two concerts was limited to Rs.49/-. This enabled a large number of music lovers of Bangalore to attend the concerts. BKF did not consider free concerts as we wanted the hall to be filled with genuine hindusthani classical music lovers.


World Kidney Day: Annual awareness programme


Since 2006, second Thursday in March is observed as World Kidney Day globally. The mission of World Kidney Day is spreading awareness about the importance of our kidneys and its related diseases, measure to control adversity of its impact with a theme every year

BKF is also observing World Kidney Day since 2010

WKD 2010: Free Blood Sugar checkup camp was organized along with Novo Nordisk and a presentation on DIABETES & KIDNEYS by Dr.Suchhy Chugh, Diabetes Educator – Novo Nordisk.

WKD 2011: Release of handout - Heart Health and Kidney disease

WKD 2012: Total Dialysis Care programme was inaugurated

WKD 2013: Few of BKF donors were honoured by giving Certificate of Appreciation

WKD 2014: Release of Prevention is Cure booklet and felicitation of first kidney transplant patient, dialysis patients undergoing dialysis past 8 years and Dr.N Balakrishna.
